ADAMS, Jessie
Jessie Adams was born at Ipswich on 9 August 1863, daughter of James Adams, a commercial traveller in tobacco machinery, and his wife Anna née Key, who married at Brentford, Middlesex in 1853. In 1871, Jessie was a 7-year-old, living at 23 Whip Street, Ipswich with her parents 38-year-old James and 42-year-old Anna, with five siblings, Anna P., 16, twins Moses J. and Samuel H. 14, all born at Eastbourne, Sussex with Rachel Jane 12, Emma Elizabeth 9, both born in Ipswich. In 1901, a 37-year-old art teacher, living with her parents at Cobbold Road, Felixstowe but by 1911 Jessie had moved to Richmond Cottage, Trimley St Mary, Suffolk, from where in 1909 Jessie was advertising her art lessons. In 1939 Jessie was 'living on private means' at 15 Bath Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk and in 1942 she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club two works, 'Rhododendrons' and 'Path to the Garage'. An art teacher at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, near Ipswich, Jessie Adams died at Oxford in 1945, she was unmarried.
