JONES, Leon John
Leon John Jones was born at Harlesden, Middlesex on 13 March 1886, second son of John Phillips Jones, an Indian rubber merchant, and his wife Catherine Louisa née Bingham, who married at Marylebone, London in 1882. In 1891, Leon was a 5-year-old, living at Spenser Road, Lambeth, London with his parents, 37-year-old John and 29-year-old Catherine, with siblings Emma Maria 8, born at Coventry, Fordyce Charles 7 and Catherine Nora [sic] 2, both born in London. Leon was educated at Dulwich College, London and in 1911, a 25-year-old traveller in the rubber business, living at 70 Mount Nod Road Streatham with his 49-year-old mother Catherine Charlotte and siblings Fordyce Charles 27, a manager for Reliance Rubber and Hardwood Co., Katherine Mount 22, a music student and Joyce Christina Mary 12, a scholar. As 2nd Lieut. Leon John Jones of the Queen's Westminster Rifles he married at Hampstead, London on 16 January 1915, Ethel Mary née Wickham and was a Captain in the 16th Battalion Westminster Rifles 1917-1919 during the First World War. In 1939, a director of a sweet manufacturing company, living at Cobbold's Mill, Monks Eleigh, Suffolk with his wife Ethel and their children and several servants. In 1942, he exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club 'Judges Walk, Hampstead Heath with Mrs Siddons Cottage'. On 13 December 1956, when living at Denham Lodge, Weston-under-Wood, Olney, Buckinghamshire, he and his wife departed for Durban, South Africa on the 'Jagersfontein'. Leon John Jones died at Denham Lodge, Buckinghamshire on 24 December 1962.
