BARBER, Clarice Marjorie

1897 - 1980

As Clarice Marjorie Caley, she was born at Norwich on 25 May 1897 and baptised at St Stephen's church, Norwich on 8 July 1897, younger of the two daughters of Edward James Caley (12 August 1862-9 February 1938), a manufacturer of mineral waters, chocolate, ginger beer and crackers, and his Scottish born wife Isabel Nairn née Waddell (26 May 1862-2 July 1950), youngest daughter of John Craig Waddell, solicitor of Airdrie, who married at St John's Episcopal Church, Coatbridge on 26 August 1887. In 1911, Clarice was living at Pine Bank, Thorpe St Andrew, Norwich with her 48-year-old father Edward and elder sibling Joyce Elizabeth 19, her mother was at a hotel in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Clarice studied at Bedford College for Women, London University and in 1921 was a student living on her own account, at 17 Arlington Mansions, Chiswick. Clarice married at Paddington, London in 1945, Cyril Thomas Barber (26 July 1894-10 December 1959), who died at 'Goodshelter', North Parade Gardens, Southwold, Suffolk. Clarice was a member and exhibitor from Southwold at the Norwich and Norfolk Art Circle 1961-1964. Clarice Marjorie Barber died at 36 Devon Square, Newton Abbot, Devon on 14 May 1980.
