EVANS, Henry Arthur

1861 - 1882

Henry Arthur Evans was born at Ipswich in 1861, and baptised at St Matthews Church, Ipswich on 24 March 1861, son of John Evans (c1815-22 March 1888), a schoolmaster, and his wife Eliza née Pero (1818-1976). In 1861, Henry was a newly born, living at School House, St Matthew's Church Lane, Ipswich with his parents, John 45 and Eliza 42, with siblings John William 16 and Anne Eliza 13, both born at Lincoln, Katharine 10, Frederick George 9, Leonora Ellen 4 and Eleanor Marian 2, all born at Ipswich. In 1881, Harry was a 20-year-old pupil teacher, still living at St Matthew's School with his widowed father and another daughter Emily Caroline 27 as housekeeper. Henry studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art and in 1879 obtained hi certificate for freehand drawing and in 1880 passed out with a certificate of excellence in Model Drawing. He died 'of consumption' at School House, St Matthew's, Ipswich on 30 September and buried in Ipswich Cemetery on 5 October 1882, aged 21.
