Christopher Humphries

Christopher John Humphries trained under art tutor, singer & showman, Ian Robins Dury (1942-2000). Chris took influences from fashions, night life, street life, contemporary music, which helped form creative ideas & concepts used within his paintings. Christopher's chosen medium is a mix of acrylic, pastel, and charcoal, with an original approach using open brush strokes leaving layer upon layer of vibrant colour and movement flow to 'find their way through to the surface and the viewer'. His chosen subjects include English and French rural landscapes and seascapes, dreamlike nudes which spill to the edges of the canvas, and enchanting still life, interiors, and gardens. Christopher married in the Deben district of Suffolk in 2005, Ann R. Peters and they settled at Yoxford in Suffolk. Christopher's work has been shown in many national galleries including the Royal Academy and many local including Taplin Gallery, Woodbridge; Westleton Crown Gallery; Southwold Gallery and the Aldeburgh Gallery. Chris has spent some time teaching painting and drawing in colleges around the country and he gives art classes from his working studio at Taywood Cottage Studio, The High Street, Yoxford. His commissions have included art projects for companies such as The London Mozart Players, Piper Champagne, and The British Film Institute.
