HALLIDAY, Hugh Ingle
Hugh Ingle Halliday was born in India on 2 January and baptised at Quetta, Bengal on 2 February 1892, only son of Col. Hugh Maclean Halliday (c1866-10 December 1920), an officer in the Assam Division, and his wife Sarah Elizabeth née Ingle, who married at Quetta on 5 December 1890. Hugh was educated at Abbey School, Beckenham, Kent and at Haileybury College, Hertford. He served in the Sussex Regiment during the First World War and seconded as an officer in the Indian Army, ending his military career in the Assam Rifles. He later became a surveyor. with Bird and Co., in Calcutta before returning to England in 1931, living at Brundish, Suffolk. He married at Chelsea, London in 1925, Alejandra Georgiana Darrell Adamson (10 June 1896-5 October 1981), having previously being engaged to another lady earlier that year. Hugh exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1932 from Yew Tree House, Brundish, Suffolk, a pastel 'Brundish, Autumn'. Hugh Ingle Halliday died at Yew Tree House, Brundish on 25 January 1952, without issue, and his widow married in the following year, Sir Charles Ridley Pawsey (14 July 1894–21 July 1972) of the Priory, Badingham, Suffolk.
