MAHON, Gilbert
Gilbert Mahon was born at Rawmarsh, Yorkshire on 7 October 1865, son of Revd Sir William Vessey Ross Mahon, 4th Bart. (14 July 1813-14 August 1893), rector of Rawmarsh, and his wife Jane née King (1838-7 June 1895), who married on 12 October 1853 and were an Anglo/Irish family. Gilbert married at St John's Church, Paddington, London on 19 March 1895, Fanny Blakeney (1863-17 March 1931), daughter of John Blakeney of Abbert, and Castle Blakeney, co. Galway, Ireland. As a partner, with brothers John Fitzgerald (1858–1942) and Edward (1862–1937), in the Prospecting Syndicate of British Columbia Ltd., of Vancouver, he lived and travelled extensively in North America and Canada. By 1911, a 45-year-old 'of independent means' living at Sudbrooke Cottage, Ham Common, Ham, Surrey with his 47-year-old wife Fanny [Frances]. He exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club in 1932 from the Conservative Club, St James's Street, London two oil paintings 'Farmyard' and 'Walberswick' he also exhibited at the New Burlington Galleries in 1936 'The Medium'. Gilbert Mahon died at The Studio, Racecourse Vies, Lyndhurst, New Forest, Hampshire on the 2 January 1947.
