MONIER-WILLIAMS, Charlotte Mary
As Charlotte Mary Benyon, she was born in Nasirabad, Ajmer, Raijasthan, Madras, India on 12 July 1861, daughter of Gen. William Henry Howell Benyon (7 July 1826-13 October 1903) and his wife Charlotte Barton Lawrence (8 March 1839-14 January 1918), daughter of Lt. Gen. George St. Patrick Lawrence, who married at Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India in 1859. Charlotte married in India on 9 January 1892, Stanley Faithfull Monier-Williams (1856-16 July 1938), an architect, and was the mother of Hugh Benyon Monier-Williams. In 1911, a 49-year-old, living at Walton-on-the-Hill, Surrey with her 54-year-old husband Stanley, a surveyor and architect, with their daughter, of their three children, 8-year-old Felicite Primrose. They had a home in Southwold, Suffolk and two of their three servants were born in the county, one in Southwold and one in Bury St Edmund's. A landscape, figure and portrait painter she exhibited at the Dudley Gallery; the International Society of Sculptors Painters; Walker Art Gallery; the Royal Academy; the Ridley Art Club and the Society of Women Artists 1891-1915 from Walton on the Hill, Surrey in 1891 and 1910, from Southwold, Suffolk in 1907 and from London in 1914. Charlotte Mary Monier-Williams died, after an earlier visit that year to Tangiers, at The Old House, 49 High Street, Southwold on 30 November 1933, aged 73.
