RUSSELL, Joan Wycliffe

1892 - 1982

Joan Wycliffe Russell was born at Chingford, Essex on 22 June 1892, daughter of Revd Alfred Francis Russell (1851-19 May 1936) and his wife Frances Wycliffe Bunyon (13 March 1856-13 August 1941), daughter of Charles John Bunyon, barrister-at-law, who married at St Mary Abbot's Kensington, London on 30 December 1886. In 1901, Joan was an 8-year-old, living at The Chantry, High Street, Chingford, Essex with her parents, 49-year-old Alfred and 45-year-old Frances, with siblings Hilda 13, Geoffrey 10, Marjorie 6 and Francis 3, all born at Chingford and with a second name of Wycliffe. In 1911, an 18-year-old pupil at Butler House Marlow Hill High Wycombe, Buckinghashire. She exhibited at the Ipswich Art Society in 1935 from Dalethorpe, Dedham, Essex, an oil 'Burg Finstergrum' and a watercolour 'Summer Time Reflections'. In 1939, living on 'private means' at Delethorpe, Stratford Road, Dedham with her widowed mother Frances and several others and they retained three indoor servants. Joan Wycliffe Russell died at 10 Brook Street, Dedham on 12 February 1982, she was unmarried.
