KELL, Frederick

1859 - 1924

Frederick James Hills Kell was born at Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1859, son of Catherine Kell (1841-1891) and the grandson of Charles Kell. In 1871, as James F. H. Kell, was living at New Street, Woodbridge with his grandparents, 53-year-old Charles, a plumber & glazier, and his 49-year-old wife Catherine, and their 28-year-old by then married daughter Catherine Nadin, née Kell, who had married Samuel Nadin in 1865. Frederick married at Ipswich in 1881, Annie Sophia Banham (c1956-1914) and in 1891, a 30 [sic] year-old painter & decorator living at New Street, Woodbridge with his 35-year-old wife Annie, with three children, Frederick Robert 8, born Edmonton, London, Lilian Maud 6 and Charles Samuel 3, both born at Woodbridge another son Arthur William was born later that year. As Fred Kell of Woodbridge, he exhibited at the Woodbridge Fine Art Exhibition, held at the Lecture Hall, Woodbridge in April 1887, two oil paintings 'Flamingo' and 'Fishermen' and two watercolours 'Summer Evening' and 'The Bell Inn, Woodbridge'. In 1901 he was still living at New Street but on 1 September 1907 the first meeting of his creditors was held at Ipswich when his creditors were owed £103. 0s. 6d, and his only assets were £3 for furniture. In 1911, a 50-year-old painter & decorator, living at Quay Street, Woodbridge where his 55 year old wife kept a sweet shop. His wife died at Woodbridge in 1914, aged 56 and he married secondly at Woodbridge the following year Agnes Amy Yendall (22 February 1875-1951). 1920-1923 he was living at 65 Douglas Road, Hornchurch, Essex with his wife Agnes Amy and his death is recorded in the 1st quarter of 1924, aged 62 [sic].
