Marianne Morris was born at Bungay, Suffolk in 1814, daughter of Joseph Money Morris (1793-10 May 1865), a printer, and his wife Henrietta Brightly, fourth daughter of printer Charles Brightly, who married at St Mary's Church, Bungay on 20 September 1812. By 1820, her father Joseph was trading as a printer on his own account from Earsham Street, Bungay and in 1830 at Broad Street, ‘Printing office, at the back of the Tuns’. In 1851, 34-year-old Marianne, a schoolmistress, was living at the 'Printing Office' with her parents Joseph and 57-year-old wife Henrietta and they had three boarders. By 1853 the family had left Bungay for Ipswich but by 1861, Marianne was a 47-year-old artist, living at Walnut Tree Walk, Lambeth, London with her parents 69-year-old Joseph and 67-year-old Henrietta.
