NORMAN, Pattie Eleanor

1866 - 1945

Pattie Eleanor Norman was born at Hackney, London on 26 June 1866, daughter of George Parsons Norman and his wife Eleanor née Clark (c1846-1915), who married at Hackney in 1865. In 1871, Pattie was living at London Fields, Hackney with her parents and around 1878 they moved to 2 Burton Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk, her brother was George Samuel Norman-Crosse. Pattie studied under her father and was a landscape and miniature artist and a member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters. She exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and at Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1883 from Lowestoft, two watercolours 'Daydreams' and 'Fisher Girl', in 1884 two watercolours 'Go Away' and 'Two Old Bouys' and two in 1885 'Lane at Herringfleet, Suffolk' and 'Earlswood Common, Surrey' she also exhibited in 1923, 'Backwater, Somerleyton, near Lowestoft'. In 1883 she took first prize at the Bury St Edmunds Fine Art Society for her watercolour 'Oulton Broad' and in 1885 she exhibited 'Carlton Cliffs' and 'Flixton Broad' and in 1889 at the Woodbridge Art Exhibition at the Assembly Room, Bull Hotel, Woodbridge a watercolour, 'Lake Lothing' and in 1894 she sent a watercolour 'Water Wooing Willows' to the Royal Academy but this does not seem to have been exhibited. By 1891 she had moved to 24 St Margaret's Terrace, Church Road, Lowestoft and, like her father later, used the surname Parsons-Norman and when they moved to Norwich, she became a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1912-1916 and where she was a High School teacher. In 1911 she exhibited two works at the Coronation Exhibition 'Charles Dickens' and 'H.R.H. The Prince of Wales' Besides being a painter she was also an accomplished musician, singer, and repertory actor and in 1939, an artist & art teacher, living at 103 Regent Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Pattie Eleanor Norman was of The School House, Grove Road, Sonning Common, Henley, Oxfordshire when she died at Paxton House, Bath Road, Reading, Berkshire on 28 September 1945, aged 79, she was unmarried.
