LORD, Frederick James
Frederick James Lord was born at Southwold, Suffolk on 5 May and baptised on 1 August 1875, son of Richard Lord (1829-), a merchant and ship owner, and his wife Martha née Harrison (1834-1906), who married at Docking, Hunstanton, Norfolk in 1855 and in 1861 were living at Dwell House, Heacham Road, Heacham, Docking. By 1871 the family had moved to Southwold, Suffolk and in 1881, Frederick was a 5-year-old, living at South End, Southwold, Suffolk with his parents, 51-year-old Richard, now a pork butcher, and 47 year old Martha, and siblings Fanny Chadd 16, born Heacham, with Thomas 14, Willliam 12, Charles 10, George 8, Mary 6 and Margaret 2, all born at Southwold. Frederick's sister Fanny became the wife of Louis Thain. In 1891, his mother Maria kept the 'Marquis of Lorne' in High Street, Southwold living with just her two youngest children Frederick and Margaret. In 1901, Frederick was a 25-year-old 'fancy wood carver' and a student at Chiswick School of Art, lodging at 16 Linden Gardens, Chiswick, London, the home of the Brightwell family. He seems to have given up on his wood carving career as in 1911 an 'estate agent', a boarder at 110 Palewell Park, Mortlake, Surrey, the then home of the Brightwell children including his future wife, Edith. He married at Fulham, London in 1916, Edith Blanche Brightwell (11 April 1873-13 February 1962). In 1939, a clerk union officer, living at 39 Fontarabia Road, Battersea, London with his wife Edith. Frederick James Lord was of 54 Gresham Street, Staines, Middlesex when he died at St Bernard's Hospital, Southall on 24 June 1963, aged 88.
