GOLDNEY, Ruth

1894 - 1989

As Kathleen Ruth Richardson, she was born at Yoxford, Suffolk on 8 August 1894, second child of Revd George Frederick Richardson (8 May 1861-7 February 1944), vicar of Yoxford, and his wife Kathleen Marianne née Sheppard (19 July 1863-29 July 1946), daughter of Samuel G. Sheppard of Leggatts Park, Hertfordshire, who married at North Mimms Church, Hertfordshire on 6 January 1892. In 1901, Ruth, as she was known, was a 6-year-old, living at Leiston Hill, Saxmundham with her parents 39-year-old Frederick, who was born at Bury St Edmund's, and 37-year-old Kathleen with three siblings, John N. 8, Hester Dorothy 4 and Samuel G. 2, all born at Yoxford but by 1911 they had moved to Balby Road Doncaster, Doncaster, Yorkshire. Ruth married at Poole, Dorset in 1924, Major Philip Chard Goldney (14 February 1883-9 May 1986) and painted under the name as Ruth Goldney. Ruth was a painter in watercolour and pastel of landscapes, flowers and miniatures and was in India with her husband 1926-1937 where she painted extensively also working in Canada, Norway, East Africa, and Bermuda. In 1939 she was living at Westlake, Crondell, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire with her husband, a retired army officer. Kathleen Ruth Goldney died at The Bernard Sunley Home, Maybury, Woking, Surrey on 24 December 1989.
