SCRIMGEOUR, Elsie

1892 - 1952

Elsie Scrimgeour was born at St Pancras, London on 24 July 1892, youngest daughter of Walter Scrimgeour (1852-20 May 1937), stockbroker, and his wife Elizabeth Marian née Pardoe (1853-26 May 1954) who in 1921 were living at The Hall, Hemsby, Norfolk with unmarried daughter Marjorie, one of their eight children. Elsie exhibited at the Suffolk Art and Aid Association at Halesworth in 1912, several painting which were 'deserving high praise'. Elsie served as a nurse during the First World War, and she married at Hemsby Parish Church, Norfolk on 22 September 1920, Harold Hickling (1876-22 April 1935), an insurance broker, and in 1921 were living 'Waverley', the Common, Southwold, Suffolk. In 1935, on the death of her husband Harold, they were living at The Priory, Wrentham, Suffolk, and she was still there in 1939 with her 21-year-old son Michael Hickling born 28 June 1921. Elsie Hickling, widow, died at 48 Pembroke Square, London on 30 May 1952.
