DRISCOLL, Julie

As Julie Dawson, she was born at Ipswich in 1968, daughter of Patrick J. Dawson and his wife Diana née Welham, who married in Suffolk in 1955. Julie trained at Canterbury taking a B.Sc. and Diploma in Occupational Therapy and worked in psychiatry. She married in 1998 Paul H. Driscoll and now works as Julie Driscoll. An occupational therapist and specialist in mental health using art as a therapeutic tool and has lived and worked in many places both in the U.K. and abroad. A mostly self-taught artist developing her skills by having tutorials from other professional artists to improve techniques. Most of her work uses an 'impasto' style with oil paints, palette knives and the use of hands with paints being applied in layers over several weeks, working on several canvases simultaneously. Her paintings tend to evolve as the paints are mixed and different tones are created, they are impressionist contemporary landscapes. Her subjects are often related to local Suffolk landscapes, particularly water-based areas such as reeds and rivers, although each picture evolves during the painting process leaving only a figment of the original image. A member and regular exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Society and a full member of Suffolk Open Studios. Julie has also exhibited both in solo and mixed shows including at The Old Rectory Campsea Ashe; Snape Maltings Galleries; The Old Printworks Gallery, Saxmundham; Art on the Prom, Felixstowe and her works are on show at Vanil, the interior design shop at 17 Church Street, Woodbridge, Suffolk. Also, an experienced occupational therapist, natural practitioner, and artist, offering art lessons at her studio in Suffolk.
