RIDLEY, Annie

1837 - 1910

Esther Ann Ridley was born at Ipswich in 1837, daughter of John Ridley (1804-8 July 1871), ironmonger, and his wife Ann née Rudkin (1806-1899), who married at Peasenhall, Suffolk on 3 March 1831. In 1861, Annie, as she was known, was a 23-year-old living at 11 Albert Terrace, St Matthew's, Ipswich with her 57-year-old father and 55-year-old mother. In 1871, Annie was lodging at Brunswick House, The Parade, St Mary in the Castle, Hastings, Sussex but her father died later that year when she returned to live at Ipswich. In 1881, a 44-year-old, living at 147 Norwich Road, Ipswich with her 75-year-old widowed mother Ann and they retained one servant. As Miss Annie Ridley, she exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from 153 Norwich Road, Ipswich in 1883, two 'plaques' and is listed in 1885 but had nothing on show. She exhibited a work 'The Bouquet' at the British Institution and another at the Society of British Artists 1864-1870. Esther Ann Ridley died at 172 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich on 4 December 1910, she was unmarried.
