RIVETT-CARNAC, Lady Eva Mary Bernard

1875 - 1939

As Eva Mary Bernard Orr, she was born at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia in 1875, eldest daughter of James Orr (1844-27 June 1900), of the Adelaide branch of Union Bank of Australia and later assistant manager of the head office in London, and his wife Aileen/Alice Maude née Wilmot. In 1901, Aileen was a 47-year-old widow living at 10 Redcliffe Square, Kensington with her three daughters, Eva 25, Stella 23 and Aileen 22, all born in Australia. Eva married, as his second wife, at St Luke's, Redcliffe Square, Kensington on 11 September 1901, Revd George Clennell Rivett-Carnac (23 October 1851-13 March 1932), who was rector of Sweffling, Suffolk from 1908 until 1913 and inherited as 6th Baronet in 1924. His first wife was Emily Louisa Crabbe (1854-1894) who married on 20 May 1885, and died on 22 March 1894. In 1911 Eva was the 35-year-old wife of 55-year-old Revd George Rivett-Carnac, living at The Rectory, Sweffling, Suffolk with stepdaughter Evelyn Anna 23, and children John Temple 4 and Aileen Mary 2, both born at Sweffling and in 1921 were living at The Rectory, Woldingham, Surrey. A miniature artist, she exhibited at the Royal Academy. Lady Eva Mary Bernard Rivett-Carnac died at 44 Stanford Road, Brighton, Sussex on 8 May 1939, leaving two children Aileen Mary [Bolton] and John Temple, 7th Bart.
