CURRY, Alex

1974 - ?

Alexander David I. Curry was born in London in 1974, son of David J Curry and his wife Patricia J née Elliot who married in Surrey in 1964. Alex, as he is known, spent his early childhood in the British Virgin Islands, and was educated at Stowe School. He then studied fine art at Winchester Art School and at Norwich School of Art before moving to rural Suffolk, where he has lived since the late 1990s. His more recent works have focused on detailed, large-scale drawings of industrial structures, drawn on decorator's lining paper, with a common theme of information transmission, electrical distribution, and agricultural production. When isolated in a detailed drawing, these structures question a modern society that relies on the mass provision of information and resources. Alex frequently receives commissions and has exhibited in several Suffolk galleries and three of his drawings were commissioned for public spaces in the converted BBC Television Centre, West London. Alongside his artistic practice he has designed and built various bespoke timber frame buildings and has also worked as a stone carver’s assistant producing contemporary sculpture and architectural stonework.
