SCOTT, Alma Madeline
Alma Madeline Scott was born at Shadingfield Hall, Wangford, Suffolk and baptised at St John the Baptist Church, Shadingfield on 5 November 1854, daughter of Revd Charles Thomas Scott (22 October 1810-22 October 1895), rector of Shadingfield since 1839, and his wife Arabella née Thring (1820-1889), who married at Sutton Veny, Wiltshire 11 July 1843. In 1861, Alma was a 6-year-old scholar, living at Shadingfield Hall with her parents, 50-year-old Charles and 40-year-old Arabella, with five siblings Mary 12, Arthur 8, Herbert 4, Edith 2 and newly born Margaret, together with her uncle 43-year-old Henry Scott and they retained five indoor servants including a teacher. As Miss Madeline Scott, she exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Shadingfield Hall in 1881, an oil painting ‘Wedgwood and Chrysanthemums’ and although listed in 1882 had nothing on show. Madeline, as she was known, married at Shadingfield Church on 11 July 1894, Ernest Frederic Harrison (10 August 1858-29 July 1912), a sugar & fruit dealer, and in 1901 she was living at Dunsley, Maldon Road, Wallington, Croydon with her 42-year-old husband Ernest and their 5-year-old daughter Lois, born Deptford, two relatives and retained two servants. On 13 June 1904, her husband was a private patient in Croydon Mental Hospital, and he died on 29 July 1912. Alma Madeline Harrison was of Layfayette Apartments, Dwight Way, Berkeley, California when she died on 14 January 1916, aged 62.
