PIN MILL STUDIO
Pin Mill Studio was established in 2004 by Anthony Cullen and Brett Williams, two young photographers who moved out of London and needed a local base for their studio work. This former chandlery and sail loft was transformed into a studio and arts space. The studio, adjacent to the famous Alma Cottage, from Arthur Ransome's 'We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea', had been a sail loft for Thames Barges for a long time and was later a chandlery until the early 1990s. Brett Williams died in 2008 but Pin Mill Studio is still (2023) being run by Anthony Cullen. The Pin Mill Studio on the banks of the River Orwell at Pin Mill, near Ipswich where they also run courses in photography, painting, and drawing, and sailing theory. The Studio space is also available for hire.
