TOLLEMACHE, Hon. Emily
As Emily Beer, she was born around 1871, daughter of Thomas George Beer and his wife Caroline Crowhurst née Gardner (1841-1871), who married at Milton by Gravesend, Kent on 5 July 1862. Her mother died in childbirth, aged 30, and her father was buried at St Peter & Paul Church, Charlton by Dover, Kent on 21 June 1872. Emily married at Birmingham on 30 June 1897, Duff James Alfred Tollemache. Emily exhibited from 131 Oakwood Court, Kensington, London at the Birmingham Royal Society of Artists and the Walker Art Gallery 1905-1908 and was still living at 131 Oakwood Court with her husband in 1912. Emily Tollemache died at Clifton, Green Lane, Shepperton, Middlesex on 17 February 1939, aged 67, and buried beside her husband in Brompton Cemetery, London.
Note: her maiden name has been variously noted as Emily Russell, dau. of H. Russell and as Barr, but the GRO marriage index (2nd quarter 1897 6D 408) says Beer and the history 'Tollemaches of Helmingham' says Beer.
