Delia Tourney-Godfrey

As Delia Thurkettle, she was born at Ipswich on 9 May 1959, daughter of Derek Frederick James Thurkettle (20 July 1929-2021) and his wife Doris Joan, née King (born 1932), who married at Ipswich on 20 March 1954. As Delia Thurkettle, she married at Ipswich in 1979, Craig Finlay Tournay-Godfrey, a teacher, and paints under the name of Delia Tournay-Godfrey. As a mature student, Delia studied at Suffolk College 1996, under Ken Back, taking a B.A. (hons) in Art & Design and continued studying with Back until his death in 2002. A member and committee member at Suffolk Open Studios 2001-2005 and a part-time Lecturer in Adult Education at Suffolk College 1990-2000. A figurative painter who uses oils and uses light, colour and mood with life drawing an essential part of her practice. Delia's work has been widely exhibited throughout East Anglia, Southern England and London including at the Ipswich Art Club and MF Gallery and Framing with her first solo exhibition ‘Figures in the Landscape’ at Chappel Galleries, Essex in 2008, other solo exhibitions include at Snape Maltings Galleries at Snape; Assembly House, Norwich; Aldeburgh Festival Exhibition and at Buckenham Galleries, Southwold and in 2018 a significant exhibition 'Strangers on a Shore' at her second solo exhibition at Chappel Galleries. Delia has sent work to the New English Art Club, where she is a candidate for membership and ING Discerning Eye, from 2006 where a Prize Winner in 2015 and had, with only isolated gaps, annual acceptances at both venues from 2006 to date. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and in 2016 her large oil painting 'Watching the Waves' was selected for the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize Exhibition.
