TUCKER, Revd John Kinsman
John Kinsman Tucker was baptised at Moretonhampstead, Devon on 24 October 1810, son of Revd John Tucker (1787-1859) and his wife Mary Ann née Kinsman (1777-1830), widow of George Brittan (1773-1803) and had a son George Symons Brittan (1802-1832), Mary Ann and John Tucker married on 25 December 1809. Young John, who was the brother to Revd William Guise Tucker R.N. (12 May 1812–17 January 1885), married at Plymouth, Devon on 10 September 1834, Sarah Henrietta Shepherd (16 March 1805-13 May 1888), fourth daughter of Thomas Shepherd of Butcombe Court, Somerset. In 1841 John graduated B.A. from St Peter's College, Cambridge, and ordained deacon as curate at Framsden, Suffolk. In 1842 ordained priest and in 1844 instituted rector of St Catherine's Pettaugh also in Suffolk where he remained for the rest of his life. In 1851, 40-year-old rector of Pettaugh, living at The Rectory, Pettaugh with his 46-year-old wife Sarah, born in Somerset with their children, John Henry 16, Mary Jane 10, both born at Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire, Savill Arundel 7, born Framsden and newly born Barton Shepherd, born at Pettaugh, and they retained three indoor servants, a second daughter, Charlotte Henrietta was born in 1853 and second son Charles William (1837-1861) was away as a naval cadet. Tucker, who was a self-taught artist, exhibited at the Needham Market Fine Arts & Industrial Exhibition at the Town Hall, Needham Market on 11 July 1867 and at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from Pettaugh Rectory in 1884 'Rev. J. K. Tucker-from life by himself' which now hangs in the vestry of Pettaugh church. His wife died at Pettaugh in 1888 and in 1891 John was an 80-year-old widower still living at Pettaugh Rectory, with his 48-year-old daughter-in-law Eliza Jordan Tucker, née Shepherd and grand-daughter, 10-year-old Victoria T. Tucker (born 28 June 1880), Eliza's husband Savill Arundel Tucker, a former solicitor had absconded in 1883 with £55,000 of his clients' funds. John Kinsman Tucker died at Pettaugh on 14 June and buried on 18 June 1896. Tucker was the author of 'The Catechism of the Church of England Explained' (1849).
