TURNER, Margaret Louisa
Margaret Louisa Turner was born at Colchester, Essex on 12 July 1852, daughter of Sayers Turner (1815-9 February 1880), an attorney at law, and his wife Louisa Clare Williams (1820-1 November 1893), youngest daughter of Revd James Haddy Wilson Williams, rector of Fornham All Saints', who married at Colchester on 13 July 1843. In 1871, Margaret was an 18-year-old, living at High Street, Colchester with her parents, 55-year-old Sayers and 50-year-old Louisa, with five siblings, Beresford George 22, Josepha Blanche 20, Frances Grace 16, Cecil 13 and Maud 9, all born at Colchester. Margaret exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club from East Hill, Colchester, in 1882 'Waiting for Dinner' (171), in 1891 'Grannies Treasure' and in 1893 'Reflected Glory' and 'Cut off in their Prime'. As Margaret Louisa Patterson, a widow, she married at St Cuthbert's, Kensington, London on 16 December 1902, Lawrence Romney (1857-1932), third son of Revd John Romney of Whitstock Hall, Ulverstone, the marriage was not happy and Lawrence Romney lived for some time at Tudor Cottage in Guildford, being estranged from his wife. Margaret Louisa Romney died at 49 Elsom Road, Kensington, London on 16 October 1930.
