WRIGHT, William Arthur
William Arthur Wright was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 17 April 1825, and baptised at St James’s church, Bury St Edmund’s on 23 May 1825, son of William Wright (1801-1868), a master cordwainer [shoemaker], and his wife Susan née Ranson (c1797-1869), who married at St James’s church, Bury St Edmund's on 25 December 1824. In 1851, William was a 25-year-old printer compositor, living at 56 Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmund’s with his parents, 49-year-old William and 54-year-old Susan. He married at Diss, Norfolk in 1857, Emily Broad (23 July 1835-1917), eldest child of George Broad of Diss, and they moved to Newmarket, Suffolk where in 1861, William was a 35-year-old printer & bookseller employing two men, two apprentices and two boys, with his 25-year-old wife Emily, born London and two children, 3-year-old Arthur George and 7-month-old Emily Kate. In Morris’s 'Directory' 1868, a printer, bookseller & stationer, pianoforte warehouse, at High Street, Newmarket. In 1871, a 45-year-old, living at Newmarket with his 35-year-old wife, two daughters and four sons including 6-year-old (Herbert) Alan Wright. In 1881 a 55-year-old printer & bookseller, employing three men and two boys, still at High Street, with his 45-year-old wife Emily, and children, 20-year-old Arthur George, a bookseller’s assistant born Bury St Edmund’s but baptised at St Mary’s church, Newmarket on 17 July 1858, Emily Kate 20, Edith Mary 10 and George Sydney 9, all born at Newmarket. An amateur artist, as W. A. Wright of Newmarket, in 1880 he exhibited at the Bury St Edmund's Fine Art Society. William Arthur Wright died at St Mary, Newmarket on 10 September and buried in Newmarket cemetery on 13 September 1883, aged 58.
