FORREST, Nancy

1907 - 1985

As Nancy French, she was born at 12 Dale Terrace, Fulwell, Sunderland on 22 December 1907, second child of Thomas James French (1876-1946), a clerk in a brass foundry, and his wife Sarah Elizabeth née Bridges, who married at Sunderland in 1902 and in 1911 were living at 12 Dale Terrace, Fulwell. Nancy trained at the Sunderland College of Art and Craft and did some teaching. She married at Sunderland in 1932, John Forrest (6 March 1906-6 February 1966), a school attendance officer, and paints as Nancy Forrest. In 1939, they were living at 38 Park View Road, Ipswich. Nancy's main work medium was watercolours in landscape, portrait, and flowers and at Ipswich both Anna Airy and Cor Visser aided her. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1958 until her death and exhibited regularly including a watercolour at the Club centenary in 1974 'Old Houses, Cliff Quay', she also exhibited in 1977, 'Beyond the Lock, Sproughton', in 1978 'Spring Galaxy' and in 1980 'Fore Street, Ipswich'. Nancy Forrest died at 38 Park View Road, Ipswich on 25 January 1985.
