ROBERTS, Susanna Maria

1823 - 1901

Susanna Maria Roberts was born at Haverhill, Suffolk on 11 April and baptised at Haverhill St Mary Church on 15 April 1823, second daughter of Revd Robert Roberts (1787-25 December 1875), vicar of St Mary's, and his wife Emily née Nottidge (1794-12 November 1876), who married at Wixoe, Suffolk on 26 October 1819. In 1851, Susanna was a 27-year-old, living at High Street, Haverhill, with her parents, 63-year-old Robert and 56-year-old Emily, with six siblings Robert Lynford Nottidge 29, Louisa Cecilia 26, Priscilla 23, Alicia Mary 20, William Caryl 18 and Josias Pepys 15, all born at Haverhill. As Miss S. Roberts, she exhibited from Haverhill, two watercolours at the (Royal) Society of British Artists 'St David's Day' and 'Windsor Castle from the Forest'. She married at Haverhill on 27 August 1871, as his second wife Revd William le Mottee (1813-19 January 1896) from Guernsey, Channel Islands who was then vicar of the adjoining vicarage of Helion Bumpstead, Essex, his first wife Amelia Margaretta had died at Helion Bumpstead on 13 September 1868, aged 48. In 1881, Susanna was a 57-year-old, living at The Vicarage, Helion Bumpstead with her 68-year-old husband and two stepdaughters, Clara 36 and Fanny 24, both born in Guernsey, and they were still there in 1891. Her husband William died at Helion Bumpstead, Essex in 1896 and Susanna Maria le Mottee died at Maidenhead, Berkshire on 14 September 1901.
