SEAGER, Mabel
Mabel Seager was born at St Peter's Street, Ipswich on 15 May 1872, daughter of Robert Seager, ham & bacon curer, and his wife Hannah née Spencer, who married at Ipswich in 1868. In 1891, Mabel was an 18-year-old ham & bacon merchant, living at 7 Dalton Road, Ipswich with her parents, 44-year-old Robert and 45-year-old Hannah, with siblings Claude Spencer 14, Olive 12 and Bernard 9 and in 1901 a commercial clerk still living with her parents at Dalton Road, Ipswich and they were still there in 1911. Watercolour landscape and coastal painter and a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1903-1915 exhibiting from Eversley, 7 Dalton Road, Ipswich in 1903 'The Creek, Walberswick', 'Blyth River', 'Sketches from the Beach, Walberswick', 'The Sea against the Cliff doth Daily Beat' and 'Far from all Trodden Ways', in 1905 'Scotch Firs' and 'By the Gipping', in 1915 'Apples', 'A Poppy Field, Aldeburgh', 'At Slaughden' and 'Irises' with her last exhibits as a member were in 1915 when she had on show an untitled watercolour and 'Sketches', all watercolours. In 1923, although not now a member, she exhibited an oil 'Homeward Bound'. In 1939, a retired clerk, living at 56 High Street, Ipswich with two other ladies. Mabel Seager died at 21 High Street, Ipswich on 12 May 1949, aged 74, she was unmarried.
