Bob Broadley

Robert Broadley was born at Esher, Surrey in 1939, son of George Broadley (1 April 1903-1978), a storeman at R.A.F. maintenance unit, and his wife Jane née Oates (1 December 1901-9 September 1991), who married at Burnley, Lancashire in 1929. In early 1939 the family were living at 96 Widdrington Road, Coventry with George and Jane and two of their children, George, jun. (born 29 August 1931) and Eric (born 21 September 1934), with his brother-in-law Milton Oates. Bob, as he is known, studied Graphic Design at Kingston School of Art (now Kingston University) 1955-1959 and joined an advertising agency 1962-1982, during which time he was involved in packaging graphics, and later designed and made toys and furniture. In 1982 he commenced painting, developing and re-inventing his now familiar and current style of work. Often figurative in style he also enjoys depicting landscapes, letting the oil make its way, but then defines the piece with his strong and still graphic influence. He has exhibited at Bow House Gallery, Barnet; John Russell Gallery, Ipswich; Byard Art, Cambridge; Wiseman Gallery, Oxford; Field Dalling Gallery, Norfolk; Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh, Suffolk; Mall Galleries, London and Karen Taylor Gallery, St Margarets, Middlesex and other galleries in London and the provinces also exhibiting at 'Art on the Prom' at Felixstowe, Suffolk. His paintings are held in European & New York private collections. His studio is at 30 Deben Road, Woodbridge, Suffolk.
