GOOCH, Alexander John

1901 - 1998

Alexander John Gooch was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk on 13 July 1901, sixth of the seven surviving of thirteen children of George Thomas Gooch (14 April 1874-1 February 1920), a gas fitter, and his wife Ann née Houston (5 December 1872-5 April 1966), who married at Lowestoft in 1898. In 1911, Alexander was a 9-year-old, living at 329 Raglan Street, Lowestoft with his parents, 36-year-old George and 38-year-old Ann, with six siblings, Maud 12, Harold 10, Frederick 7, Gladys 5, Elsie 3, and newly born Hilda, all born at Lowestoft. Alexander was educated at Lowestoft School of Science and Art and became an art master. He married at St Mary's Church, Watford, Hertfordshire in 1938, Constance Beatrice Mary Sainsbury (2 July 1903-1984) and in 1939, a schoolteacher, living at 45 Waveney Crescent, Lowestoft with his wife Constance. A member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1947-1950 from Lowestoft. Alexander John Gooch died at Lowestoft in 1998.
