EVANS, Violet Muir

1868 - 1959

As Violet Reid, she was born on 26 May 1868 and baptised at Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex on 2 June 1868, second daughter of Nevile Reid (11 January 1839-1 May 1913) of Hanworth, Middlesex and his wife Caroline Matilda née Vigne (19 March 1845-5 January 1933), daughter of Revd Henry Vigne, vicar of Sunbury, who married at St Mary's Church, Sunbury-on-Thames on 16 August 1866. Violet married at St George's Church, Hanworth, Middlesex on 9 June 1896, Dr Harold Muir Evans (29 September 1866-28 March 1947), a medical practitioner who became consulting surgeon to the Lowestoft and East Suffolk Hospital, and she painted under the name of Violet Muir Evans, she was the sister-in-law of Wilfred Muir Evans. In 1901, the 32-year-old wife of 34-year-old Harold Muir Evans, living at Turret House, Cliff Road, Kirkley, Lowestoft, Suffolk with a 4-year-old daughter Margaret and 2-year-old son Harold, they later had another son. A member and exhibitor at the Woodpecker Art Club, later named the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle, 1921-1927 from Lowestoft, Suffolk. In 1939, married and living on own means at 'Greenhayes', St Marys Road, Beccles, Suffolk. Violet Muir Evans died at Meadowcroft, Ringsfield Road, Beccles on 17 June 1959, aged 90
