BRYANT, Jessie
Jessie Bryant was born at Eccles, Norfolk on 8 June 1861, daughter of William Bryant (1832-29 May 1875), a corn merchant at Eccles, Norfolk, and his wife Sarah Wells (1833-7 February 1899), third daughter of William Wells, miller & farmer of Kenninghall, who married at Kenninghall Church, Norfolk on 21 November 1853. In 1871, Jessie was a 9-year-old, living at 39 Berners Street, Ipswich with her parents, 38-year-old William and 37-year-old Sarah, with three siblings, Richard John 16, Katherine Maud 8, Herbert Walter 5, all born at Eccles. Jessie studied at Ipswich School of Science and Art, passing her model drawing examinations in 1884. Jessie Bryant exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club from 39 Berners Street, Ipswich in 1883 three watercolours, ‘Dripping Well, Fairlight Glen, Hastings’, ‘The Cliff near Ecclesbourne, Hastings’ and ‘Lovers’ Seat, Fairligh Glen, Hastings’. Jessie married at St Matthew's Church, Ipswich on 2 February 1885, William Alfred Dunham (1863-2 August 1905), a horse dealer of Wymondham, Norfolk, and in 1891 they were living at Northfield Cottage, Wymondham with two children, Douglas Alfred 3 and Leslie 2, keeping two house servants and a groom and were still there ten years later with the addition of another child. In 1911, Jessie, a widow and laundry proprietor, was living at Abbeycroft, Church Street, Wymondham but by 1921 had moved to 90 Cotterells, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire where she was living with her daughter and son-in-law. In 1939, Jessie Dunham was living at 4 Smithfield Road, Norwich, Norfolk and died in the Great Yarmouth District, Norfolk in 1947.
